Kofi Yeboah Writes, On February 9, 2024, the Chairman of the National Media Commission (NMC), Yaw Boadu-Ayeboafoh, waded into the media blackout imposed by the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) on two Members of Parliament (MPs), with a ‘bombshell’ that has caught fire in the Ghanaian media landscape. Boadu-Ayeboafoh had his say (which he is entitled to under the 1992 Constitution) but the overwhelming public backlash against his unpopular views is a loud call by media gatekeepers that he cannot have his way because the path he chose is not a thoroughfare. The three wisemen in biblical setting who followed the star to look for Jesus, celebrated his birth with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh, when they had found him. Hear me ye wisemen of our contemporary setting: on my birthday, follow my advice here; look for, and celebrate, me with gifts but never forget to add chocolate. Beside appreciating God on this auspicious occasion, for almost two decades now, my birthday celebration was never complete without eating and sharing chocolate. But Lydia Ofei, a resident of Suhum in the Eastern Region, burst into tears in utter disappointment about her son gaining admission into Legon PRESEC. Due to poverty, Lydia, a mother of five and single parent working as an attendant at a nursery school in Suhum, had advised her 16-year-old son to choose one of the three senior high schools in Suhum as a day student because that is what she can afford. Jesus Christ has been killed by the Jews after one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, sold him out for crucifixion 2023 years ago, so says the Bible. Christians across the world are mourning Jesus Christ, some with church services and others with ‘Gbonyo Party’. I am doing none of those. I am travelling to Obuasi. But I am soberly reflecting on the saving grace of Jesus Christ secured by his death on this day. One nagging question, which has never betrayed me on this occasion like Judas did to Jesus, but which I desire to kill like the Jews did to Jesus, is that if the death of Jesus Christ brought salvation to humankind, did Judas, who contributed significantly to the killing of Jesus, do wrong? Another nagging question: why did Judas Iscariot commit suicide after gaining handsomely from the betrayal transaction?
